Most of us have our first experience with jigsaw puzzles as a kid, and many of us never stop puzzling. Or perhaps we find our way back to puzzles later in life, after we come across a gorgeous one on display in a store or are given one as a gift. In any case, puzzling is great fun as an adult!

There are a lot of us in our 20s, 30s, and beyond who just love jigsaw puzzles. From the very beginning, we've gotten tons of positive feedback and support for what we do at Bewilderness. Adult puzzlers are eager for the next big challenge, they can appreciate gorgeous puzzle art, and they love to share their enthusiasm for the hobby with each other.

In 2018, Ipsos conducted a survey on behalf of Ravensburger to learn more about adult puzzlers. They found that at least once a year, 48% of American adults put together a puzzle (one that is intended for adults). We bet that number is even higher now, as anecdotal evidence (and our online order log!) suggests that many people either picked up the hobby or renewed their interest in it in 2020 during the Covid pandemic.

Ipsos also mentions that for 69% of adults surveyed, solving jigsaw puzzles is a tradition for their families, especially at the holidays. We can vouch for this as well, as it's a sentiment we hear a lot around Christmastime. If your family likes to keep a puzzle out and slowly solve it over winter break, or gather around the table with some eggnog and hot chocolate to solve together, you're in good company.

What do you like about putting puzzles together? For me, it's the same thrill I get when learning something new or making big gains toward achieving a goal. Something that I can remember being totally incomprehensible when I first encountered it becomes clear, or something I wasn't able to do at first slowly but surely becomes achievable. I start with a pretty picture and a baffling pile of pieces, and by the end, I'm aware of so many details about the art that I wouldn't have noticed. It's satisfying problem solving with every piece.
